Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Pippa compliant for direct food contact, and what does the testing cover?

Yes. Food-contact testing has been conducted on finished production pouches, not just laboratory coating samples. Testing covers overall and specific migration, heavy metals, and toxic chemicals against applicable threshold limits. The testing laboratory is NABL-accredited, and signed reports with sample identification are available. The compliance applies to the finished converted and sealed package, and external printing does not change the food-contact compliance scope.

Which food applications are covered by Pippa's food-contact testing?

Pippa has been evaluated for applications including dry foods, pan masala, gutkha and similar packaged products. Additional overall- and specific-migration reports are also available.

What structure was used to achieve Pippa's reported WVTR and OTR values?

The reported barrier results were achieved using: Paper: 55 GSM C1S paper Pippa coating: approximately 6–8 GSM WVTR: 0.6 at 38°C and 90–100% RH OTR: 0.9 at 23°C and 0% RH The reported results are averages across multiple specimens, rather than single measurements.

Are the WVTR and OTR results for the coating alone or for a finished product?

They are for the finished Pippa product, not simply the coating material. The complete original test reports, including test conditions, are available and were conducted through an NABL-accredited laboratory. Barrier performance remains largely stable across normal variations in temperature and humidity, while exact typical, best and worst performance depends on the product structure selected for the application.

Can I customize the design of this component?

Yes, absolutely. The component is built using native Framer tools, so you can tweak fonts, colors, spacing, animations, and layout however you like.

Are Pippa samples laboratory prototypes or commercially manufacturable packs?

The pan masala samples were produced as a commercial batch on commercial-scale machinery, rather than being hand-made laboratory specimens. The coating was applied using a rotogravure press. Pippa samples have also been developed for tea and coffee sachets, and some Pippa packaging structures are already being used commercially by customers.

Has Pippa packaging undergone real shelf-life testing?

Yes. Pan masala has been stored in Pippa packaging for more than 90 days as part of shelf-life evaluation. Real application and shelf-life testing has also been conducted across products including fresh foods and greens, coffee, tea and pan masala. Some technically more demanding applications, including probiotics and curd, have required further formulation development.

What temperatures can Pippa packaging withstand?

Current validated limits include: Continuous-use temperature: up to 120°C Short-duration temperature: up to 175°C Recommended filling temperature: below 100°C The appropriate limit can vary depending on the complete pack structure and application.

Has Pippa been tested with hot coffee, tea and other hot liquids?

Yes. Finished Pippa packs have been tested with hot liquids at 85°C, 90°C and 95°C for several minutes. Post-fill leak testing was conducted and the packs passed without leakage. Formal seal-strength testing immediately after hot filling was not conducted due to safety constraints. Hot liquid does not adversely affect the Pippa coating adhesion, although prolonged heat and moisture can naturally affect the underlying paper.

Can Pippa be used for oily foods, milk, soups or gravies?

Pippa's coating provides oil and grease resistance, making it relevant for a variety of oily and food applications. Suitability for products such as milk, soup or gravy should be validated against the exact product, pack design, filling process and required shelf life.

Can Pippa packaging be used in a microwave, freezer or oven?

Pippa has been tested in applications involving freezer-to-heating/defrosting conditions, including taking a pack from frozen storage into heating environments. The material also undergoes oven-based testing in Pippa's laboratory. Exact microwave or oven suitability should, however, be validated against the intended package structure and end-use conditions.

Does Pippa have different coating weights and structures for different products?

Yes. The 55 GSM C1S paper + 6–8 GSM coating structure represents one tested configuration, but the final substrate, coating weight, adhesives or additional layers can change according to the product being packed and its required barrier, shelf life and processing conditions. This is why barrier performance is evaluated against the specific commercial application, rather than quoting one specification for every use case.

Can Pippa provide complete technical and compliance documentation?

Yes. Pippa can provide relevant documentation including: Food-contact and migration reports Heavy-metal and toxic-chemical testing WVTR and OTR reports with test conditions NABL laboratory details Sample identification and tested structures Relevant application and shelf-life evidence

Can Pippa benchmark its performance against conventional packaging?

Yes. Incumbent-vs-Pippa barrier comparisons can be provided for relevant applications, allowing brands and converters to compare Pippa's performance against their existing packaging structure.
